🗑️ Should we remove XSLT from the web platform?

Mason Freed, a developer on the Chrome team, has proposed that web browsers remove support for XSLT. After many solid arguments against removal, he countered with this:

So while we (the Chrome team) do understand the posts suggesting a renewal and improvement instead of a removal, we are strongly convinced that this would not be the right way to spend our limited resources. Doing so would reduce our ability to work on other platform features where there is measurable developer impact and interest, and which drive the web forward.

I'm all for driving the web forward, but not at the cost of driving other parts backward at the same time.

Styling the feed for this site with XSLT to make it human-readable, complete with instructions for how to use feeds, is one of the next things on my todo list. You can see XSLT in action on Adactio's journal feed as an example. I still plan to add XSLT despite this proposal, which will hopefully be rejected.
